Unit 44 - Fabrication and manufacturing processes

It is important that engineers have an appreciation of the materials and processes involved in manufacturing sheet metal products, and are capable of creating solutions to engineering-based problems.

During this unit will cover the main stages of manufacturing a sheet metal product: preparation, cutting out blank components, forming up the components and joining them into an assembled product.

You will learn the safe use of a range of industrial hand tools, machinery and other equipment associated with fabrication processes. You will apply this knowledge in the manufacture of a sheet product of a portable wood-burning stove.
